With the end of the school year comes the beginning of our summer reading program, Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover… and the need for good things to read!

Every year, Youth Services staff brainstorm our favorite books with diversity, appropriate reading levels, and various genres in mind to create the Get Reading summer book lists for kids going into every grade from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade.

We decided that this year, while so much is different, this was something that shouldn’t be.

Allow me to introduce you to this year’s Get Reading Digitally book lists, available on our Recommendations for Kids page.

Read

Each Get Reading Digitally book list combines two grade levels—from Pre-K & Kindergarten to 7th & 8th Grade—with the hope that students and families will find fun and interesting books to read independently or together. Most importantly, you can access every title from home via one of the Library’s digital download and streaming services: OverDrive, Hoopla, Axis360, or Tumblebooks.

Investigate

Many of us are used to holding a physical book in our hands, but there is no better time to investigate different book formats. From ebooks to short videos to audiobooks, anything goes when it comes to Summer Reading! And, a tip from your friendly neighborhood librarian, audiobooks are just as good for you as books you read with your eyes.

Discover

While the Get Reading Digitally book lists contain some of our favorite titles, we hope you use them to explore and discover more of the many titles available on each of our digital downloading and streaming services. And if you find something you love, share it with us and all of Morton Grove by posting on social media and tagging #mgplsummer.

And remember, you can always reach out to us at the Library to help you access our digital resources, download ebooks, or recommend more great books to read.

Stay safe and get reading!
