Although we’re all staying at home, that doesn’t mean we don’t still want to get together and talk about books. That's why the Library’s monthly book discussion Between the Lines is going virtual! Learn more about the featured book and how to participate in the discussions.

About the book

Our April discussion centers on The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict. The fictionalized story of real-life movie star and inventor Hedy Lamarr, Benedict’s novel explores Lamarr’s escape from her Austrian arms-dealer husband to become a Hollywood legend while hiding a secret double life as a Jewish scientist and sharing vital information about the Third Reich.

The book is available through all library ebook platforms, including on Hoopla where copies are always available. Find any instructions you may need on our Download & Stream page.

How to participate

There are two ways you can join the discussion:

Online at Goodreads

To connect with your fellow readers online, find us at the Between the Lines discussion group on Goodreads. You are welcome to drop by anytime to add to the discussion, but know that we will have two moderated discussion times: Thursday, April 16, at 10 am and again on Tuesday, April 21, at 7 pm.

You do need a Goodreads account to post to the group. Signing up for a new account is easy (you can do it here)—all you need is an email address and password. However, if you run into problems, please contact us so we can help you get set up.

By Phone

If you're not interested in online book discussions, you are welcome to join our first-ever telephone book discussion on Tuesday, April 14, at 9:30 am, presented in partnership with Mather. To join by phone, call (855) 880-1246 and enter the meeting ID: 386 399 7030# when prompted.

Hope to see you all there!
