This Saturday, August 15, marks the first day of the 47th Annual Children’s Art Contest! But what is the Art Contest and how can you participate?

In previous years, the Children’s Art Contest involved participants designing a bookmark, then three winners were chosen and their designs were distributed at the Youth Services desk.

However, to keep everyone safe, this year we are allowing art submissions in any form that you create at home. Eligible participants must be between entering Kindergarten and grade 8. Projects should be completed individually and created within the Contest period (August 15 – October 15).

How to submit

Once your piece is finished, complete the online entry form at mgpl.org/art with a photo or scan of the submission. Remember: you can submit only 1 project per photo and only 1 photo per entry, so make sure you capture the full scope of the piece in the picture.

How to vote

After October 15, the voting period begins! All submission photos will be posted to a gallery on the Library’s Facebook page. Votes will be counted in the form of Facebook "likes", and you may "like" as many entries as you want to, including your own piece. MGPL staff will also participate in the voting process outside of Facebook. The winning entries of the Art Contest will be announced on November 9 and published online with the name and grade of the artist.

We look forward to seeing all your finished works of art. Stay safe and happy creating!
